A New Era In Education: 21st Century Learning

Hello, my friends! Today I'm going to be writing about 21st-century learning.

As 21st-century people, technology has already been at the center of our lives for a while. From socializing to educational purposes, when used correctly, it can be very useful to improve our life quality; therefore, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that it's an integral part of our lives. It's hard to imagine a world where we don’t have the access to technology, especially for the generation that was born into it: Gen Z, the digital natives

As teacher candidates from the ELT department, our students will mostly be from this generation so it's significant for us to integrate the use of technology into our classes to get the best results in our teaching. There are three main skills that our students must be improved at in 21st-century learning and one of them is media & technology skills.

A type of lesson in which the teacher lectures with a PowerPoint presentation is a thing of the past now. Our students have a great command of technology usage but when we ignore that and choose to use the traditional way of teaching, making the students passively listen to the lecture, we reduce the learning potential of the students and make it hard for them to focus on the lesson as they can get bored easily. In 21st-century learning, our main goal is to make the students the focal point of the classroom. And to achieve that we should be letting the students actively engage in the learning process while using the tools that may increase course efficiency such as technology.
